Questions

The things you'd ask before you trusted us.

Straight answers, including the ones most eyewear sites bury. If yours isn't here, ask us and a person will answer it.

Getting the prescription right
Will the prescription actually be correct?

This is the fear, and it's a fair one. Online glasses come back blurry when the lens isn't centered on your eyes, and that happens when a seller skips your measurements and uses a default instead.

We capture your pupillary distance and your segment height, the two numbers that decide where the optical center lands. The lens is ground to your script and centered on you, not on an average.

What are PD and seg height, and how do you get them?

PD is the distance between your pupils. Seg height is how far up the lens your line of sight sits in the frame you chose. Most online sellers ask for PD at best, and quietly use a standard seg for everyone.

We guide you through capturing both with your phone camera. It takes a couple of minutes and it is the single biggest reason a pair arrives right instead of wrong.

My optician won't give me my PD. Now what?

You are not the first. Your prescription is yours, and so are your measurements. If you can't get them handed over, use our guided capture instead. You don't need the optician's cooperation to order from us.

What if my prescription is strong?

Stronger scripts have less tolerance for a millimetre of error, which is exactly why we measure seg height rather than assume it. Send us your script before you order and we'll tell you honestly what we can do with it and what we'd recommend.

Fit and choosing frames
What if they don't suit my face?

Shape gets all the attention, but the thing that usually goes wrong is size. A frame that's too wide slides, one that's too tall covers your brows, and neither looks right no matter what shape it is.

Tell us the frame you're considering and roughly how your current pair sits, and we'll tell you straight whether it works. We'd rather talk you out of the wrong frame than sell it to you.

Can I try them on first?

Not physically, and we won't pretend otherwise. What we do instead is give you the actual frame measurements, guidance on how they should sit, and a person who will look at your case before you buy rather than after.

The frames and lenses
What are the frames made of?

Acetate, cut from sheet, not poured into a plastic mold. Injection-molded plastic goes brittle and snaps at the bridge. Acetate holds up, takes colour with more depth, and has a weight to it that cheap frames never have.

Acetate sheet · spring-hinge metal

Will they snap like my last pair?

The two parts that fail first are the bridge and the hinge. The bridge goes because thin injected plastic fatigues, usually while you're cleaning them, which is why it feels like it happened out of nowhere.

Our temples run on spring-hinge metal instead of a snap-prone weld, so they flex with your face instead of fighting it. We won't say unbreakable, because nothing is. We do back the frame and hinge for as long as you own the glasses.

Do you do prescription sunglasses?

Yes. Real correction with sun tint, and polarization where the style calls for it. If you've been driving in clear glasses because prescription sunglasses cost more than the frames are worth, this is the part we built for you.

Are these copies of a designer brand?

No. These are our own designs, drawn from classic silhouettes the way every eyewear house draws from them. We don't copy a model and we don't sell you someone else's name.

What we skip is the licensing sticker. One group can own the brand, the shop and the vision plan, and the same factory frame gets marked up at every step. You're paying for the glasses, not for that.

Ordering, shipping and if something goes wrong
How long until they arrive?

Prescription pairs are ground to your script before they ship, so nothing is pulled off a shelf. That takes a little longer than a stock pair. You get a tracking link by email the moment yours is on its way.

What if my pair arrives wrong?

If there's a production fault, or the lenses don't match the prescription you gave us, we don't hand you a return policy. We make you a new pair, corrected, at no cost.

Email us with your order number and a photo if you can, and we'll sort it.

Can I return them if I just change my mind?

Prescription pairs are made to your eyes, so they can't be resold or restocked, which means they aren't returnable for a change of mind. We'd rather be upfront about that than surprise you at the end.

That's also why we put the work in before you order: the guided measurement and the fit advice exist so you don't end up in that position. Ask us anything you're unsure about first.

What does backed for life actually cover?

The frame and the hinge, the two parts that fail first, for as long as you own the glasses. Repair or replace. It doesn't cover losing them or sitting on them, and we're not going to pretend it does.

Is there a real person behind this?

Yes. One address, read by a person, not a ticket queue that goes quiet. If you've been left on read by an eyewear brand before, that's the thing we're most determined not to be.

Still unsure about something?
